About

Dr. Yee Ian Yik completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate training at University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur in 1998 and 2005, respectively. He has worked as Clinical Fellows at Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne and Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide to consolidate his training as a Paediatric Surgeon. He was recently conferred his Ph.D. by University of Melbourne, Australia, for his thesis on Chronic Constipation in Children and The Roles of Nuclear Transit Scintigraphy (NTS) and Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation (TES) therapy.

His main area of interest is in Surgical Gastroenterology, particularly in treating children with chronic constipation and cholestatic jaundice. He is also trained and experienced in minimally invasive surgery, i.e. laparoscopy and thoracoscopy in both neonates and infants. He has succesfully performed numerous laparoscopic pull through in neonates and infants with Hirschsprung disease and thoracoscopic repair of congenital diaphragmatic hernia in neonates. He has pioneered the first innovative biliary diversion surgery for a child with Progressive Familial Intrahepatic Cholestasis (PFIC), with great relief of her pruritic symptom and much improved quality of life, avoiding the need for liver transplant. He also has treated many children with anorectal malformation, with early recognition of the condition, careful delineation of the anatomical abnormality with early corrective surgery and much improved outcomes. He has also used his skills to perform laparoscopic appendicostomy to administer antegrade continence enema (ACE) for chiildren with intractable chronic constipation.
